Is your engine missing from the list?

Feel free to check out the Honda website in case you didn’t find your engine on this list.

Symptoms of a Bad Spark Plug

Are you thinking about replacing your current spark plug? There are some universal signs you need to look for:

  • Your engine won’t start at all
  • The engine needs repeated attempts to start properly
  • The engine misfires
  • Fuel consumption is noticeably increased
  • There are deposits and a buildup of residue on your spark plug
  • The spark plug is damaged

Are there any deposits? You need to remove the spark plug with a proper tool, clean it using a small knife and make sure that it is gapped properly. You can find the ideal gap size on the list above.

How to Change Spark Plug on Your Engine

To change the spark plug on a Honda engine, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the engine and let it cool down completely before starting.
  2. Locate the spark plug. On a Honda engine, it is typically located on the side of the engine, and it’s connected to a wire that runs to the ignition system.
  3. Remove the spark plug wire by pulling the boot off of the spark plug. Do not pull the wire itself, as this may damage the wire.
  4. Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to loosen the spark plug by turning it counterclockwise. Make sure you do not force the socket onto the spark plug, as this could damage the plug or the socket.
  5. Once the spark plug is loose, remove it from the engine by turning it the rest of the way by hand.
  6. Check the condition of the spark plug. If it’s dirty or worn out, it needs to be replaced. If it looks clean and in good condition, you can reuse it.
  7. If the spark plug needs to be replaced, install a new one by threading it into the engine by hand. Make sure you don’t cross-thread the plug or over-tighten it, as this could damage the engine.
  8. Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to tighten the spark plug, but don’t overtighten it. Check the owner’s manual for the recommended torque specification if you’re unsure.
  9. Reattach the spark plug wire to the spark plug by pushing the boot onto the end of the plug until it clicks into place.
  10. Start the engine and listen for any abnormal noises or misfires. If the engine is running smoothly, you’ve successfully changed the spark plug.

It’s important to note that different Honda engine models may have slightly different procedures for changing the spark plug. It’s always a good idea to consult the owner’s manual for specific instructions for your particular engine.
